2014 Deutz Champagne Cuvée William Deutz

2014 Deutz Champagne Cuvée William Deutz

Cuvee William From Deutz is one of our favorite Tete de Cuvees Champagnes, and the 2014 is another excellent rendition from the house, ranking among the best of all time. Cuvée William Deutz is a reference-point release from this Aÿ house, marrying the vintage’s classical cut to serious depth. It is a Pinot Noir–led blend with Chardonnay and a touch of Meunier drawn from top Grand and Premier Cru sites, fermented in stainless steel and then left nearly a decade on lees before a restrained dosage. In the glass, it delivers precise citrus and white stone fruit, florals, and delicate pastry, all riding a fine, persistent bead and a long, chalk-driven, saline finish. It is one of the strongest recent iterations of William Deutz and one of the top examples of the vintage, which was not highly regarded at the time, but time has proven otherwise. This is already superb, but it will continue to age for over 10 years. 2014 received the highest score for this cuvee from Galloni, ever making it a vintage not to miss!

Antonio Galloni 95 pts!  The 2014 William Deutz is quite the powerhouse. A Champagne of substance and presence, the 2014 has a lot to offer. Kirsch, white flowers, orchard fruit and hints of spice all resonate as this intense, layered Champagne opens with a bit of coaxing. It’s another terrific Champagne from a vintage that producers were quite negative on at the outset. (Drink between 2025 - 2039)
