2011 Château Magdelaine

2011 Château Magdelaine

Always an incredible buy from this Chateau, we have a limited amount of the 2011 available today at this US low pricing coming directly from the importer in perfect condition. This is a tremendous effort for the vintage, and 2011 was the last vintage of Chateau Magdelaine produced, with the juice now going into Chateau Bel-Air Mon-Ange. We tasted a bottle not long ago and were very impressed and with about an 1 hour to open up, there were lovely aromas of blue and red fruits, a touch of earth, game, and savory herbs. The pallet has beautiful balance, incredible depth, and a kaleidoscope finish. This is excellent Bordeaux, one of the wines of the vintage, and it will continue to drink well for decades to come. Not much of this is left on the market anymore, and we have a few cases arriving soon, so grab some before it's gone!

John Gilman 92+ points! "By this point in the tasting, I was really starting to wonder about my palate, but with the 2011 Magdelaine, it was easy to see that the problem was the three previous vintages of Bélair-Monange, not my palate. The 2011 Magdelaine is a ripe wine, as this was a drought vintage, and comes in at a pretty robust fourteen percent octane, but here there is balance, refinement and underlying mineral drive that is sorely missing in the above wines. The bouquet offers up a very youthful blend of black cherries, chalky minerality, menthol, cigar wrapper, a touch of fresh herbs and a nice foundation of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with an excellent core, superb soil signature, firm, fine-grained tannins and a long, focused and very well-balanced finish. This will be lovely juice in the fullness of time. (Drink between 2027 - 2080)
