2019 MJ Tricot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières
A rare insider find, we have a late release of the 2019 MJ Tricot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières at a fantastic price. As mentioned before, Tricot is technically a new domaine, founded in 2018 by Vincent Tricot, but the family’s roots in Meursault stretch back to 1848. Vincent’s mother was a Ropiteau, a name many Burgundy buyers will recognize, and that connection gave the family access to important parcels in Meursault, including this small holding in Perrières planted to roughly 50-year-old vines. The arrangement remains closely tied to Bouchard through a traditional métayage structure, with vineyard work, harvest, vinification, and bottling all handled at a very high level by Bouchard, which is exactly what makes this wine so compelling. In practical terms, this is a chance to buy a serious Perrières from one of Meursault’s top crus with the pedigree, élevage, and polish of a much more famous label, but at a discount (Bouchards bottling is $180+). Aged for 10 to 12 months with just 15% new oak, it shows the hallmark mineral precision, finesse, and quiet authority that make Perrières such a reference point for the village, and in the excellent 2019 vintage, this is an especially smart buy for savvy white Burgundy drinkers. The scores for Bouchard's bottling are JM 93-96 and VM 92-94, which certainly apply here.
Jasper Morris 93-96 points! "Full lemon yellow the most compete nose of the big three, combining aspects of the other two. Pears in the background, starts discreetly then really kicks on before reaching a complex powerful finish with very good acidity. High class wine here with excellent length."
Vinous (Neil Martin) 92-94 points! "The 2019 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru is quite intense on the nose, although I found more terroir expression on the Genevrières by comparison. The well-balanced palate has a saline entry, a fine bead of acidity and an intense, quite citric finish; good salinity on the aftertaste. This Les Perrières has plenty of energy and should offer 15–20 years’ drinking. (Drink between 2023-2043)"
