2021 Georges Noëllat Bourgogne

2021 Georges Noëllat Bourgogne

Georges Noëllat Bourgogne Rouge is a rare find in the USA and one of the few entry-level Burgundies that still feels like a direct line into Vosne. This tiny Vosne-Romanée estate of about 5.5 hectares is now run by Maxime Cheurlin, who took over in 2010 at just 20 and began bottling what the family had previously sold off as fruit. This Bourgogne is serious for its category, drawn from two well-located parcels: the deeper clay of Champs d’Argent in Vosne and the cooler, rocky limestone of Combe de la Perrière in Nuits St Georges, with vine age averaging 60 years. It is made in the same hands-off, terroir-first style as the rest of the range: fully destemmed, ambient yeast fermentation with a long maceration in tank, then a long élevage in oak with roughly a quarter new wood, and typically bottled without fining or filtration. In the cooler, more classical 2021 vintage, that formula leans even more into lift, purity, and structure, making it a rare Bourgogne Rouge with a bit of cellar potential, though is showing well now. It's a fantastic, rare buy for the category, and we have the only bottles currently available in the US at this great price!

John Gilman 89 points! "The 2021 Bourgogne Rouge from Domaine Georges Noëllat is a beautiful example of the vintage. The very sappy nose wafts from the glass in a complex blend of raspberries, cherries, chocolate, Vosne spice tones and a lovely base of soil. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, tangy and already starting to get velvety on the attack, with lovely focus and grip, suave tannins and a long, impressively complex finish. This is unequivocally one of the finest examples of Bourgogne that I tasted on this trip! (Drink between 2024-2035)"
