2022 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode

2022 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode

One of the best buys from the Bruno Clair cellar, La Dominode is a masterfully made premier cru, and while it's not his home town terroir, it's a beautiful wine at the pricing we have today from a Burgundy favorite. Dominode is one of the reference points for the premier crus of Savigny, and Bruno Clair farms a substantial 1.14-hectare holding here (out of about 7 hectates total). What makes this wine especially compelling is that the vines were planted in 1902, giving it old-vine depth rarely found in Savigny. La Dominode itself is one of the village’s most important premier crus, and at Bruno Clair it is handled with the same seriousness as the domaine’s more famous Côte de Nuits wines, with partial whole clusters and a long élevage in barrel. In 2022, that combination makes for an especially compelling wine, made with some lovely premier cru fruit from this great vintage, at a price far below some of the other premier crus of the range and with some nice recent notes on CellarTracker its not one to miss!

Jasper Morris 93-95 points! "Tasted from a 600 litre barrel. Planted 1902. A beautiful ruby purple. The bouquet is exquisite with a perfumed deep red fruit to rival the best of the Côte de Nuits. Complete on so many levels, not just depth of fruit but the structure of the tannins and a little dark pepper too at the finish. Grand Vin."

Vinous (Neal Martin) 92-94 points! "The 2022 Savigny-lès-Beaune La Dominode 1er Cru was taken directly from demi-muids, though it is raised in regular barrels, too. The nose has wonderful delineation and purity: redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, elegant and poised with judicious oak use. The palate is medium-bodied with fine structure and grip. The 20% whole bunches is less than others due to the natural pH, a wise decision as the finish maintains tension. A gem."

Burghound 90-93 points! "A deft dollop of wood easily allows the spicy dark berry fruit aromas to shine. Like many of the wines in the range, the medium-bodied flavors are compact and powerful with fine mid-palate density and minerality where the latter adds a sense of lift to the dusty, serious and built-to-age finale. Patience again strongly advised."
