2022 Domaine Jacques Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières
Jacques Carillon’s wines are fantastic, and he has long been one of our favorite producers in Puligny, taking a slight edge over his brother, François Carillon. We have the 2022 Perrières today, which is a contender for the best of the vintage. The 2022 Les Perrières is a bar-setting wine for the estate and one of the standout bottles in the range, sourced from a roughly 0.60-hectare plot of vines averaging around 40 years of age. Aging is done in about 20% new oak for one year, followed by six months in stainless steel, a regimen that preserves both richness and the soaring minerality that is the hallmark of this cuvée. 2022 was a strong vintage for this wine, which has a profile that feels especially compelling, with orchard fruit, citrus, flowers, hazelnut, excellent acidity, and striking balance, all carried by a satiny texture, chalky tension, and the kind of length and precision that make this Puligny so distinctive. We have a limited amount at this low pricing, and it's not a 2022 Puligny 1er to miss!
Burghound 93 points! "This is aromatically similar to the Champ Canet though with even greater abundance of floral elements plus a background touch of petrol character. The rich and concentrated medium weight flavors exude a bracing salinity on the beautifully detailed, chalky and sappy yet quite linear and youthfully austere finish. As is often the case, this will need at least a few years to unwind and flesh out."
John Gilman 93 points! "The 2022 Puligny-Montrachet “les Perrières” from Domaine Carillon is an excellent wine in the making. It too is quite bound up in its structural chassis out of the blocks and will need some cellaring, but its inherent quality is self-evident. The bouquet is a bright and focused, offering up notes of apple, pear, fresh almond, a superb base of limestone minerality, vanillin oak and a lovely floral topnote redolent of lilacs. On the palate the wine is racy, precise and full-bodied, with superb depth of fruit at the core, fine mineral drive and grip, lovely balance and a long, nascently complex and vibrant finish. "
Jasper Morris MW 93 points! "Pale colour, less reductive than Champ Canet, fuller and fleshier in the nose, all in orchard fruit. Very attractive, with a generosity across the palate that has a perfect sense of balance. A fine, complete Perrières, with just the right touch of mineral behind."
