2022 Laurent Ponsot Bourgogne Cuvée des Peuplier
We have another great vintage of “Cuvée des Peupliers” Bourgogne Rouge from Laurent Ponsot's own personal label today at this low price. It's a beautiful under-the-radar Bourgogne rouge that drinks way above its price point, made with Pinot Noir intentionally assembled from a blend of about ten parcels with a clear Côte de Nuits accent, raised with a light hand, roughly a quarter of the cuvée seeing barrel and the rest kept in neutral vessels to preserve purity. Laurent Ponsot was the former face of Domaine Ponsot and left the family domaine in 2017 after a very long tenure, setting out to make wines with zero pressure, focusing on transparent sourcing and clean, precise wines. 2022 was a widely praised Burgundy season with good yeilds, lovely ripe fruit, excellent freshness, and supporting acidity. This bottling hits the sweet spot for the category and shows serious structure, definition, and superb character at this level. One to enjoy now, but it is pretty sneaky in the cellar and has the structure to age for another 5+ years. We have low pricing here today, and it's a fantastic buy for the category, not to miss!
Jasper Morris A ruby touch to the colour. Very pretty bouquet, this is high class pinot, a little bit floral but more importantly vivid red fruits. Plus, a notable structure at the finish, so this will need a little more time than many a Bourgogne.
