2024 Domaine de La Tour Penet Mâcon-Péronne Vieilles Vignes

2024 Domaine de La Tour Penet Mâcon-Péronne Vieilles Vignes

A fantastic white Burgundy value from a Macon-based estate with fascinating roots, Domaine de la Tour Penet, was founded by Anne Ramonet in 2014, the now ex-wife of Jean Claude Ramonet, of the famed Domaine Ramonet in Chassagne-Montrachet. She is also the mother of Anne Francois and Clarisse Ramonet, who are currently working with their father at Domaine Ramonet and assisting their mother (pictured above). With a serious white burgundy lineage like this, they are turning out some of the best wines in Macon. The Ramonets wouldn't bother with some lackluster parcel of vines, so naturally, this caught Anne's eye, and this wine comes from a special parcel that is over 80 years old, and while they make a cuvee with older fruit, this is the sweet spot, and with the perfect intersection of energy and old vine concentration. The fruit here is of very high quality and concentration, and Anne has chosen to vinify in barrel, which adds another layer to this wine. This goes against the norm of Macon, which sees a lot of stainless steel and is an incredibly deep, focused, and complex example that ranks among the very best of the region and is a cut above Jean-Claude Ramonet's Mâcon-Péronne at half the price. John Gilman has previously said this is one of the finest examples of the region and has given it 91 to 93 points since its inception. This would certainly fit right into the Ramonet lineup if it had a different label andis a serious example and a great insider buy for White Burgundy. Don't miss these last bottles!
