2023 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chardonnay Bourgogne
We have a limited amount of the 2023 Bourgogne Blanc from PYCM arriving this week, and it is one of the top buys in white Burgundy at this level. Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is one of the few winemakers of the last 20-plus years to elevate himself to true superstardom, and while it certainly does not hurt to have a last name like Colin or Morey in Burgundy, he has long since proven himself as one of the most successful and influential members of that extended family. His approach has always been less traditional and more focused on expressing his vineyards in their purest form, with the use of larger barrels being one of the signatures of his style, and his wines have become known for their precision, mineral intensity, and polished élevage. This Bourgogne Blanc comes from old-vine Chardonnay, with fruit drawn from parcels in Puligny-Montrachet and Saint-Aubin on clay-limestone soils, and in 2023, it shows exactly why this cuvée is so beloved: citrus, green orchard fruit, white flowers, and the signature PYCM mineral reduction that gives the wine fantastic cut and energy.
