2024 Henri Germain et Fils Meursault
The 2024 Henri Germain Meursault is a textbook village bottling from an old-school, under-the-radar estate that we rarely get to offer, and we were fortunate to secure a limited amount at this excellent price with no upcharge over the previous vintage. Founded in 1973, the domaine farms roughly 7 to 8 hectares and is run by Jean-François Germain, now joined by his daughter Lucie since 2018, and over the years, they have built a quiet but serious reputation for age-worthy, terroir-driven Meursault. We have had superb bottles from the estate going back to the 1990s, and with limited imports and fine old-vine holdings, Germain doesn't get the attention it deserves, as these are some of the best buys in Meursault, and this AC bottling is among the strongest values in the village. Jean-François is very much a winemaker’s winemaker, crafting an elegant, refined style that captures Meursault’s richness and complexity without excess, and in the challenging, small, but promising 2024 vintage, this is quite classic showing citrus, orchard fruit, chalk, subtle nutty richness, bright acidity, and the stony cut that gives serious Meursault both immediate appeal and the ability to age beautifully. These are currently the only bottles in the US, and it's not a bottle to miss this vintage!
Jasper Morris MW 90-92 points! "Seven plots, up and down the hill. Racked to tank. More lemon than lime in colour, with quite a classic Meursault rounded concentration. Once again there is notable intensity in this Henri Germain 2024. A fresh lime aspect towards the finish, alongside notable white fruit with a little fresh. Extremely promising for the medium term."
